Gameplay Overview
Preecha is an offensive machine. Her goal is to use her unique moves to rush her opponent down and push her excellent pressure and mix-ups on them.
Luckily for Preecha, she has a bunch of tools that are perfect getting up close. First, she has Screw Leg (236K), an arcing fireball that can absorb two of the opponent’s. Hyperbolic Kick (214K) is a leaping attack that can be made plus on block either through spacing or by spending REV. While her options at mid-range are somewhat limited, she’s still able to barge in with her approaching specials, a well-timed REV Blow when it’s available, or by using her fast buttons to punish whiffed normals meant to keep her out.
Once Preecha is in, she becomes an absolute monster. She has amazing frame data up close, great light confirms, looping okizeme from strikes and throws, setplay via extra-meaty projectile, a grounded crossup special, and high/low mix that can be REV Accel’d to keep her turn. With all this, not only can Preecha push plus frames almost endlessly, but she can threaten from multiple angles at the same time, making defending against her almost impossible. Even in the few situations where Preecha is minus, the threat of her invincible DP can cause the opponent to not press and leave themselves open for even more of her onslaught.
Where Preecha falls short is in her long-range options; she’s very lacking from half-screen and beyond, which can force her to approach even when it’s not in her best interests to do so. That said, though, approaching usually is in her best interests, as when it comes to up-close fighting, there’s no one who does it like Preecha.
Pros & Cons
thumb_up PROS
- Good Pressure: A significant amount of Preecha's attacks leave her plus on block, or have ambiguous stagger windows that can force the opponent to keep blocking her offense, which in turn lets her frequently reset pressure and chip away at the opponent's Rev Gauge.
- Strong Mixups: Preecha has various specials specifically designed to open people up with High/Low and Left/Right mixups, while her abundance of plus frames and staggers make her good at running a basic strike/throw gameplan.
- Counter Zoning: While Preecha's normals generally lack range, she is by no means weak to projectile zoning. Her fireball is specifically designed to let her close the distance while it's out, and her various projectile-avoiding attacks force the opponent to stop and think before throwing out fireballs of their own.
thumb_down CONS
- Bad Midrange: As a rushdown character, Preecha shines when up-close, but her normals generally have subpar range compared to the rest of the cast. This can give her a lot of trouble in matchups where the opponent can play at this range and force her to take major risks to get in.
